WHY FATHERS? WHY FATHERS DAY? 

Father's Day is one of the few moments each year where we intentionally pause and reflect on fatherhood as a nation.

For many dads, it's a day spent celebrating with family. A day filled with cards, gifts, appreciation and the simple moments that remind us why fatherhood matters so much.

But it's also an opportunity to pause and ask ourselves some deeper questions:

What kind of father am I? What kind of father am I becoming? Am I showing up for what matters most?

The reality is that fathers play a significant role in shaping the lives of their children, partners, families and communities. Through their presence, guidance, love and leadership, fathers help create the environments in which children grow, relationships flourish and families thrive.

Like all people, fathers face challenges. Work, stress, pressure and the demands of modern life can sometimes pull us away from the fathers we want to be. But when fathers invest in themselves, become more present, emotionally aware and intentional, the benefits extend far beyond them. Children benefit. Relationships strengthen. Homes become more connected.

That's why this September, fathers from across Australia will come together through All In Dad Mode, The Modern Dad's flagship fatherhood development experience, to invest in themselves, their wellbeing and their families.

At the same time, we're inviting businesses, organisations, industry leaders and community champions who believe in the importance of fathers to help make that opportunity available to more dads across Australia.

We believe that awareness is the beginning of change, that breaking cycles is possible, and that our children learn far more from what we do than what we say. We believe that becoming a better father often begins with becoming more honest, intentional and aware of ourselves. We believe that presence matters more than perfection, that strong fathers are willing to seek support when they need it, and that the work we do on ourselves today shapes the families we lead tomorrow. Above all, we believe that when dads are doing better, families feel it too.

HI, I'M WILL. 

And I am the Founder of The Modern Dad. 

Becoming a dad at 19 changed everything—often in ways that only became clear over time. It revealed something I believe is still not spoken about enough: the intersection between mental health, wellbeing, and fatherhood. A space carrying enormous weight, yet still lacking real, relatable support for everyday dads.

Over the past decade, through my work in suicide prevention, community wellbeing, trauma-informed practice and men’s wellbeing, I’ve seen both the beauty and the pain that fatherhood can hold. I’ve lost close mates who were fathers to suicide, watched fathers lose themselves to addiction, seen the impacts of family violence, and worked alongside men carrying burdens they rarely speak about.

I’ve also seen the opposite.

I’ve watched men become fathers and transform. Become more present, more connected, more intentional and more grounded. I’ve seen fathers break cycles, reconnect with their children and create meaningful change within their families.

That contrast—between struggle and transformation—is the heartbeat of The Modern Dad.

We exist to support dads in doing the inner work that allows them to better understand themselves, break cycles, and show up more fully in their lives, relationships, and fatherhood.

Not perfectly. Not as someone else. But as the dad they are capable of becoming.

We want every state and territory represented. Fathers from different backgrounds, communities, industries and life experiences. Fathers working in construction, mining, healthcare, education, emergency services, small business, corporate leadership and everything in between.
